Abstract Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a pattern of pervasive behavioral and cognitive symptoms, characterized by excessive and impairing hyperactive, inattentive, and impulsive behavior. It is one of the most frequent childhood behavioral disorders, with symptoms often persisting across adolescence into adulthood. It is a common disorder of childhood that affects 6% to 10% of school-aged children. It may impact upon many aspects of an individual’s life, including academic difficulties, social skill problems and strained parent-child relationships. Underperformance in academic work, accompanied by conflicts with family and school authority, is often present. This pattern of serious dysfunction paves a bumpy road for many children and teens. |
