Abstract

Over the past decade, interest has grown in the role of vitamin D in many no skeletal medical conditions. Vitamin D has been shown to have an important role in the innate immune system including the production of antimicrobial peptides that are capable of killing viruses, bacteria, and fungi. These peptides, which include LL-37 are active against a broad spectrum of infectious agents including mycobacteria which emerge again and strongly as one of the major global problem affecting our world so aimed on our study to evaluate the interaction of vitamin D and tuberculosis and the correlation between serum vitamin-D and LL37 levels in tuberculosis
38 tubercoulous patients and 38 healthy child were subjected to history taking,CBC, ESR,CRP, chest X ray(for patient only) ,vitamin D and LL37 level assay.
Hemoglobin levels were significantly lower in tubercoulous patients , 76.3% of our Patient had insufficient history of sun exposure, Vit D and LL37 were significantly lower in patients than control, , Our result showed a highly significant positive correlation between vit D level and platelet count, ESR and LL37 levels and asignificant positive correlation with platelet count , also the risk factors for presence of TB in our patients were low heamoglobin level , high neutrophils and lymphocytes level, low vitD and ll37 level.
