Abstract

Beta-carotene is one of the world’s most studied antioxidants. The antioxidant function of beta-carotene is due to its ability to quench singlet oxygen, scavenge free radicals and protect the cell membrane lipids from the harmful effects of oxidative degradation, Beta carotene can also help to strengthen the immune system, also reduce cholesterol and glucose levels in serum .
The key nutrient that boosts pumpkin to the top of the Super Foods list is the synergistic combination of carotenoids. Pumpkin contains one of the richest supplies of bioavailable carotenoids known to man. extraordinary nutrition superstar Papaya have a proven record of being effective preventative measures against heart disease, diabetes and cancer, partly due to their richness in three very powerful antioxidant vitamins - vitamin A, vitamin E and vitamin C. Therefore, this study was carried out to evaluate the effect of ethanol extract of pumpkin and papaya at different doses (150 and 300 mg/kg of B.W/d) on the improving of lipid profile, glucose level, liver function and kidney function of diabetic and cholesterolemic rats.
