Abstract The present study was conducted in Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University during the two successive seasons of 2006 and 2007. Trials were made to cultivate and grow rice plant well under water deficit conditions (below optimum conditions) by using some osmoregulating compounds. Rice plants (Oriza sativa L.) var. Giza 177 were grown in white plastic bags. Plants received four time of foliar applications of each osmolytes; Glycinebetaine (Gb) at 1 & 4 mM, Spermine (Spm) at 0.25 & 0.5 mM, Sucrose (Suc) at 1 & 4 mM and distilled water as control started at 43 days after sowing with 10 days intervals. Three levels of water 5 cm (L1), 3 cm (L2) and 1.5 cm (L3) above soil surface with four days intervals were applied at 45 days after sowing. |
