Abstract total of 150 samples, collected from comb and wattles of apparently diseased chicken, were subjected for mycological examination. Direct microscopic examination (KOH) revealed positive in 19.3 %, fungal elements varied from yeast cells, septated branched hyphae and irregular hyphae or spores. Culturing of specimens on Sabouraud dextrose agar revealed the isolation of fungi in 43.3% ofthem. The isolated yeasts (16%) and 38 non dermatophyte fungi 25.3%. The dermatophyte isolates were identified as M gallinae. Twenty four yeast isolates revealed 16 Candida species, 3 Trichosporon Spp., 3 Rhodotorula species and two Cryptococcus species. The identification of Candida species showed 10 Candida albicans (6.7 %), 3 Candida parapsilosis and 3 Candida tropicalis (2 %). The identification of Rhodotorula isolates revealed 2 Rhodotorula rubra (1.3%) and one Rhodotorula glutinis (0.7%). The identification of Cryptococcus species revealed that all isolates (2 isolates) identified as Cryptococcus laurentii (1.3 %). Trichosporon species were isolated from 3 samples. Concerning the non dermatophytes mould identification revealed 12 isolates of Aspergillus niger (8%), 8 Aspergillus fumigatus (5.3%), 5 Penicillum chrysogenum (3.3%), 3 Fusarium moniliforme (2%), 3 Fusarium |
