Abstract Nosocomial infections are the most important health problems, including its impact on the quality of care for hundreds of millions of patients each year in both the developed and developing countries. Infections acquired in health care settings are the major causes of mortality and increased morbidity among hospitalized patients. They are a significant burden both for the patient and for the country, and this lead to an increase in the cost of treatment and length of hospital stay Newborns in neonatal intensive care units (NICU) are especially vulnerable to nosocomial infections due to a mixture of clinical, epidemiological, microbiological factors and immature immune system. Infection control standards in the health care facilities are necessary to assure good quality of service and reduce transmission of nosocomial infections in neonatal units. The nurse has a vital role in applying the infection control measures such as hand washing, wearing personal protective equipment, applying aseptic techniques, cleaning and disinfecting incubators according to hospital policy The aims of the present study The present study aims to determine nurses’ performance of incubator terminal care in University Children Hospital in Alexandria and find out the best antimicrobial solutions to be used for terminal incubator care. |
