Abstract Skin cancer is one of the most common human malignancy; it is the most common form of cancer in the United States. More than one million skin cancers are diagnosed annually. This registration and histopathological study was carried out aiming at registration of all primary skin cancers presented to Ain shams hospitals and Ain shams specialized hospital in the period from 2001-2005 and to confirm histopathological diagnosis. The cases of the study were registered, the histo-pathological diagnosis and adequate clinical data as regard age, sex and site were collected. The cases of the study were (242) primary malignant skin tumors, 126 cases males (52.1%) and 116 females (47.9%) with mean age 55.13 years. The cases of the study in the previously mentioned hospitals and period represents (3.8%)of all malignant tumors. 103 cases were Basal Cell Carcinomas (42.6%), (53) cases Squamous Cell Carcinomas (21.90), 51 cases were Malignant Lymphomas (21.1%), 9 cases were Kaposi’s Sarcomas (3.7%),8 cases were Malignant Melanoma (3.3%), and 8 cases were Adnexal Tumors (3.3%). from the 103 cases Basal cell carcinoma,68 cases Solid variant (66.02%), 17 cases Pigmented variant (16.5%),9 cases Adenoid variant (8.75%),4 cases Basosquamous variant (3.8%) and 2 cases keratotic variant (1.9%). from the 53 cases of Squamous Cell Carcinoma 26 cases were grade I (49.05%), 16 cases were grade II (30.2%), 5 cases were grade III (9.4%) and 4cases were grade IV (7.5%). from the 51 cases of Cutaneous Lymphoma; 41 cases were Mycosis Fungoides (80.4%), 4 cases were Lymphomatoid Papulosis (7.8%), 1 case was Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (1.9%) and 5 cases were nonclassified T- cell Lymphoma (9.8%). from the 9 cases of Kaposi’s Sarcoma; 4 cases were nodular type (44.4%) and 5 were nonclassified Kaposi’s Sarcoma (55.6%). from the 8 cases of Malignant Melanoma in this study; 3 cases were Superficial Spreading type (37.5%), 3 cases were Nodular type (37.5%), 1 case was Lentigo Maligna type (12.5%) and 1 case was Mixed Spindle Cell type (12.5%). from the 8 cases of Adnexal skin tumors, 4 cases were Sebaceous Carcinoma (50%), 2 cases were Mucinous Carcinoma (25%) and 2 cases were Paget’s disease (25%). from the previous results we can conclude that; in Egypt skin cancer accounts for 3.8% of all cancers. It affects all age groups with a mean age of 55.13% years. It is more or less the same in both sexes with male to female ratio 1.08:1. |
