Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the effect of using some drugs before and after parturition to rise the reproductive efficiency in dairy cattle. This study was carried out in private dairy farm nearly 200 Holstein Friesian cows. These cows’ ages ranged between 2-5years. The animals were divided into 5 groups. First group (n=20cows) study the effect of vitamin E&selenium (Viteselen) injection for pre-partum prophylaxis of RFM. Second group (n=20cows) study the effect of oxytocin or methergin injection for post-partum prophylaxis of RFM.Third group (n=20cows) study the effect of Oxytetracycline 3% (Panterramycin) & PGf2alpha (Estrumate) or Estrumate (PGf2alpha) for treatment of purulent postpartum pyometra. Forth group (n=20cows) study the effect GnRH agonist (Receptal) and PGf2alpha (Estrumate) for treatment of cystic ovarian disease. Fifth group (n=24cows and 24 heifers) study the effect of GnRH agonist (Receptal) post insemination in dairy cattle (Cows and heifers). Estrus was detected by visual observation twice daily, and estrus was confirmed by rectal palpation after that the cows were naturally bred toward the end of estrus; the cows were examined for pregnancy diagnosis at sixty days post-insemination. The reproductive parameters (uterine involution, calving to estrus interval, and number of services per conception, first insemination conception rate, total conception rate and days open) were measured in all groups. The data were collected and statistically analyzed. The results obtained from the present study revealed that 1- Pre-partum prophylaxis of RFM using vitamin E&selenium injection reduced the incidence of RFM and decreased the period of uterine involution, the calving estrus-interval and the S/C as well as increased the TCR. 2- The direct post-partum injection of Methergin or Oxytocin reduced the incidence of RFM, decreased the period of uterine involution, decreased the calving estrus-interval and the S/C as well as increased the TCR. 3- Treatment of pyometra using PGF2α i/m and oxytetracycline i/u decreased the interval of uterine return to normal condition, decreased the estrus-interval treatment and increased the TCR. 4- Treatment of cystic ovarian disease using GnRH analogue followed by PGf2α i/m decreased the estrus treatment interval, number of services per conception and increased the TCR. 5- GnRH analogue injection post insemination decreased the S/C and increased the TCR. Generally, the pervious treatments ante and post parturition improved the reproductive efficiency in dairy cattle. |
