Abstract
The effect of epilepsy and antiepileptic drugs on the endocrine system had attracted the attention of investigators for many yeas. Patients with epilepsy often complain of symptoms that may be caused by disturbances in their hormonal balance.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of epilepsy and AEDs on the physical growth of patients with idiopathic epilepsy, as well as on the GH & IGF-I status in those patients.
This study comprised 40 patients with idiopathic epilepsy recruited from the Pediatric Neurology Outpatient Clinic, Ain Shams University Hospital in the period from May 2007 to October 2007. Twenty apparently healthy age and sex, matched children were chosen to serve as a control group.
