Abstract Gastro-esophageal reflux disease is a worldwide common health problem that causes troublesome symptoms and is expensive to manage in both primary and secondary care settings. The annual direct cost for managing the disease estimated to be more than billion dollars in USA and $250 million in UK Definition of GERD is still lacking. In theory, the definition of GERD is simple. It is a condition in which the reflux of stomach contents into the esophagus provokes symptoms or complication which cause problems to the patients. Patients were randomized to either PPI therapy (unclear dose) or LNF. In all physiologic measurements that were evaluated 6 months later, including esophageal acid exposure and lower esophageal sphincter pressure and quality-of-life score, the LNF group demonstrated significantly more improvement than than who received maintenance PPI therapy. |
