Abstract

sheep in some rural areas in Behera governorate. Fecal and blood samples were
collected from 377 sheep, also 130 stool and 130 blood samples were collected from
human. Stool and fecal samples were examined by simple sedimentation technique, while
blood samples divided into two portions the first for eosinophilic count and the second
for serological investigation by indirect hemagglutination test (IHA). It was found that
the overall prevalence rate of fascioliasis among examined sheep were 20.2% and 31.8%
by using fecal examination and IHA, respectively. Moreover, no significant difference
were found in the isolation rate between sheep breed and age, while sex and locality
showed significant difference between the examined sheep. In addition, the overall
prevalence rate of fascioliasis among examined person were 5.38% and 11.5% by using
stool examination and IHA, respectively. The infection rate were higher in female
(14.3%) than in males (8.3%). The isolation rate differ according to locality. It was found
that the highest infection rate was found in age group(12-20 years) (10.91%) by stool
analysis and in age group(<20 years)(20%) by using IHA. In addition to that, the highest
infection rate was found in housewives than other occupation. The prevalence rate were
higher in eosinophilic group than non eosinophilic group in both sheep and human. The
infection rate were nearly similar under different group of temperature and RH by using
simple sedimentation technique.
