Abstract

Cancer is the general term for a group of more than 100 diseases in which cells in a part of the body begin to grow abnormally to form tumor. Cancer ranks as a second cause of death in the United States, proceeded only by the cardiovascular disorders. Breast cancer is a cancer that starts in the cells of the breast. Worldwide, breast cancer is the second most common type of cancer after lung cancer , and the fifth most common cause of cancer death. Worldwide, it occurs in both men and women, although male breast cancer is rare.
The chemotherapeutic agents which used to treat cancer can be physically exhausting for the patients. Current chemotherapeutic techniques have a range of side effects mainly affecting the fast-dividing cells of the body. Important common side-effects include: bone marrow suppression, nausea and vomiting, hair loss, appetite loss and weight changes, taste changes, constipation, diarrhea, fatigue, heart damage, nervous system changes. Herbal Medicine is one of the oldest types of medicine which is dating back to the ancient cultures of Egypt, China, and India, and possibly even pre-historic times for healing purposes.
Recently, there is a call for returning to the nature by using herbals with proven efficacy in prevention, treating, and minimizing the consequences of many diseases. Statistics from the WHO indicated that about 80% of the world populations using herbals and its natural integrants on their therapeutic management.
The present study aims at declaring the effects of herbals mixture in one dosage form (capsule). Containing a blend of 5 herbals used in culinary edible purposes. The herbal mixture composed of Nigella Sativa seeds, Ginger rhizome, Boswellia (Olibanum) natural exudates, Curcuma rhizome, and Cardamom seeds.
The study was conducted in the oncology out-patient clinics of Alexandria Main University Hospital.
