Abstract

Adolescence is the period of transition from childhood to adulthood during which young people go through many physical, intellectual and social changes. It is a time when adolescents are making lifestyle choices and assuming responsibility for their own health.
Proper nutrition during adolescence has a major concern of establishing a good health and preventing some chronic diseases later in adulthood. Nutritional anemia is recognized as a major public health problem throughout the world, especially in developing countries.
Iron deficiency is the most widespread form of micronutrient malnutrition around the world and yet it is the most neglected. It is regarded as the main nutritional problem in adolescents, boys and girls, and particularly so in girls. WHO estimates that 27 percent of adolescents in developing countries are anemic. So, promoting the healthy development of adolescents is one of the most important investments that any society can make.
Hence, the aim of the present study is to identify the effect of nutritional counseling on the improvement of iron deficiency anemia among adolescent girls. Thus, the study was conducted at secondary technical nursing school affiliated to Faculty of Medicine Alexandria University. All students enrolled in the secondary technical nursing school in the first (4 classes) and second grades (6 classes) were included in the study sample. The total sample of the students was 641.
