Abstract

This study was carried out on 36 horses were divided into 2 main groups and the 1st group is thoroughbred race horses and the 2nd group is jumping horses to evaluate physical fitness of sport horses by clinical and laboratory examination before exercise and 5,15,60 minutes after exercise. ● Results 1-Clinical examination • Clinical examination of the examined horses showed significant increase in the body temperature, heart rate and respiratory rate and capillary refilling time than pre exercise level, this increase is greater in race horses than jumper horses and begin to decrease gradually to return to normal levels within 60 minutes after exercise. 2- Hematological examination • Hematological examination showed significant increase in red blood cells, PCV %, Hemoglobin in both groups but white blood cells showed significant leucocytosis in jumper horses while no significant changes in total leucocytic count in race horses. Differential leucocytic count showed lymphocytosis and neutropenia followed by decrease in N/L ratio in race horses while in jumper horses showed neutrophilia an lymphopenia followed by increase in N/L ratio than pre exercise level. Erythrocyte indices include (MCH and MCHC ) showed significant decrease after exercise while MCV increased after exercise .All hematological parameters return to normal level within 60 minutes after exercise  Summary 115 3-Biochemical examination • Total protein, albumin and A/G ratio showed significant increase after 5 minutes exercise than pre exercise level in both two groups of sport horses and return to normal level within 60 minutes after exercise. •Muscle functions include (Ck, LDH and AST) showed significant increase after 5 minutes exercise than pre exercise level and begin to decrease gradually within 15 minutes to reach near normal level within 60 minutes after exercise. •Liver functions include ( Total bilirubin, ALT and AST ) showed significant increase after 5 minutes exercise than pre exercise level and begin to decrease gradually within 15 minutes to reach near normal level within 60 minutes after exercise. •Kidney functions include (urea and creatinine) showed significant increase after 5 minutes exercise than pre exercise level and begin to fall gradually within 15 minutes to reach near the normal level within 60 minutes after exercise. •Cholesterol showed significant increase after 5 minutes exercise than pre exercise level and begin to decrease gradually within 15 minutes to reach near normal level within 60 minutes after exercise. • Lactic acid showed significant increase after 5 minutes exercise than pre exercise level , showed significant increase in is thoroughbred race horses than jumping horses and begin to decrease gradually within 15 minutes to reach near normal level within 60 minutes after exercise.
