Abstract

In conclusion, lipid profile is strongly correlated with RVR, thus
confirming that metabolic factors play a key role in early viral kinetics.
Baseline high levels of cholesterol and LDL are a useful tool in predicting
RVR in chronic hepatitis C patients treated with pegylated interferon
alpha-2b plus ribavirin.
Together with other factors, baseline lipid profilemay help in
selecting patients prior to initiation of treatment. This will help a lot in
cutting costs and in prioritization of patients.
Health care providers should emphasize on the importance of better
patients selection relying mostly on pretreatment parameters. Accordingly
we recommend further studies towards the direction of more accurate
patient selection
