Abstract

Textile manufacturing is the major industry of Egypt and it plays a key role in the economy
of the country. Egypt is the largest producer in Africa and worldwide of long staple (LS)
and extra-long staple (ELS) cotton, accounting for 50 percent of world production in 2008,
it has built a brand reputation for its quality of cotton fibers. Furthermore, Egypt has a
vertically integrated textile and apparel industry, 90% of spinning and weaving companies
are publicly owned. As the name suggests the finished goods need to be bleached, dyed
and printed and these processes require plentiful quantities of the good quality water. On
the average one Kg of the material requires at least 100 liters of water. Unfortunately the
water-quality is always in short supply because the first charge on this water is for human
consumption and agriculture. About two decades back, setting up of a textile finishing
plant was in the most industrial cities only because the quality of water was available.
In this research, Designed filter device was used for the filtration of the fluid of wastewater
from dyeing and finishing mill. The factors affecting water filtration process have been
studied on water quality. The optimum design of filtration system for dyeing and finishing
wastewater treatment can be determined.
