Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate lower urinary tract function using advanced urodynamic technology to delineate and quantify urinary changes that may take place following vaginal hysterectomy.
In conclusion, the purpose of this study has not been to detract from or question the value of vaginal hysterectomy which is a widely accepted and highly effective procedure, but to highlight the fact that this operation can have important and sometimes distressing sequelae which can occur as a result of damage to the vesicourethral innervation. So it is recommended that women with urologic symptoms must be carefully evaluated using the recent urodynamic technology to detect any urinary disturbances that must be dealt with promptly prior to surgical interference.
Prophy laxis against injuries to the urinary tract must be an integral part of every pelvic surgeon’s technique. Even the most experienced surgeons have been bedeviled by the development of urinary tract disorders after hysterectomy, so any modality that will minimize these disorders should be used including proper irradication of urinary tract infection prior to surgery, proper preoperative preparation of the patients including urodynamic evaluation for patients with urinary symptoms or even as a routine procedure for all patients having a vaginal surgery to be done.
Lastly, the present study revealed that the subject of urodynamics is still a limited gynecologic art which is in need for more training for the new gynecologic generations to achieve its desired objectives regarding early diagnosis, management and follow up of urologic disorders that became common presenting symptoms to every gynecologist nowadays.
