Abstract

This work was carried out to study the possibility of utilizing fats obtained from chicken abdominal and skin fats as by-products or wastes dry rendering process and studying the effects of both dry and wet rendering on some chemical characteristics, fatty acids composition and unsaponifiable matter constituent of the recovered fats, microbiological properties, as well as utilization of these fats in toilet soap manufacturing. The results of sensory evaluation showed that beans cooked by each of the obtained rendered chicken abdominal and skin fats had a higher scores for odor, taste and over-all acceptability than beans cooked by palm oil. Eight samples of toilet soap were manufactured from eight fatty blends of palm oil, palm kernel oil and chicken fat (mixture of abdominal and skin fats 1:1, w/w) at different ratios. The results showed that the consistency of produced soap from blends no. 1,2 and 8 were semi-hard with bad quality properties, while the physical properties of produced soap from blends no. 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 were good quality either from hard structure or from rich hand lather. The results show that extracted chicken abdominal and skin fats can be used up to 40% of the total fatty blends in the toilet soap manufacture.
