Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease and is associated with increased all cause mortality. The increased risks are evident at even moderate reductions in kidney function .
Traditional cardiovascular risk factors only explain part of the incidence of coronary heart disease, and much effort is exerted in finding novel risk factors that will improve existing prediction models .
This study was done to illustrate the relationship between kidney disease and cardiovascular events by correlating circulating endothelial cells and cardiovascular risk factors like lipid profile and hs CRP .
The study included 50 subjects who were divided ino three groups 20 chronic kidney disease patients on conservative therapy , 20 ESRD patients on maintainance haemodialysis and 10 healthy subjects as a control .
History taking, clinical examination, laboratory investigations including :( routine laboratory investigations:- CBC , lipid profile ,complete urine analysis , renal function and estimation of GFR using Cockcroft-Gault equation / ESR , hsCRP and CECs measurement by flowcytometry ).
The study showed increased TG and cholesterol and decreased HDL level in CKD and HD group in comparison to the control group but no significant difference as regard LDL level in between the three groups .
The study also showed increased level of circulating endothelial cells , hs CRP and ESR in patients with chronic kidney disease on conservative therapy and those on MHD .
There was a statistically significant negative correlations between Creatine clearance and TG in both group I and II
There was a statistically significant negative correlations between creatinine clearance and CRP in both group I and II .
There was statistically significant negative correlation between creatinine clearance and CECs in the three groups .
There was a statistically significant positive correlations between Creatinine clearance and serum albumin in both group II and Ш and there was positive correlation but statistically insignificant in group I.
There was a statistically significant positive correlations between ESR and CECs in the three groups .
There was a statistically significant positive correlations between ESR and TG in both group I and II .
There was a statistically significant negative correlations between ESR and HDL in the control group .
