Abstract When using analog technology, the map served two function : 1 as a storage medium for spatial data, and 2 as a medium of communication between humans about spatial relationships. Digital technology has separated these functions into 1 a digital database containing spatial data, and 2 the ability to create maps from that digital data through an automated system. One such system is called geographic information system (GIS). Robinsn et al (1995) claim that the following definition is the most common : a GIS a system of computer hardware, software and procedures designed to support the capture, management, manipulation, analysis, modularity and display of spatially referenced data for solving complex planning and management problems. Basic education with its syllabuses, activities, equipmnent, and tools demands buildings with special specifications and requires workshop, laboratories, and libraries. Whether such requirements are observed in egypt or not, this study is devoted for. A proposed GIS is applied to a very crowded area of greater cairo, namely, El-Haram district. Offspring problem of traffic jams has been addressed and a solution was persented. A national complete computerized schools` buildings is a goal to be strived for. Just what is required is the expansion of memory and haedware in order that the peoposed GIS could handle and manipulate such a large bulk of data. |
