Abstract This study aims to investigate traffic problems and explore the proposed ad hoc networking solutions. Many of these problems result from the lack of driver information about the road. Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (V ANETs) have combined the challenges of Ad hoc networking and the unique characteristics of their nodes. V ANET attributes make message delivery such a difficult task to fulfill. In this thesis a new networking model is presented. It helps drivers survive from a congested area by sending them warning messages. The proposed routing algorithm named Modified Geographic Source Routing (MGSR) introduces the value of hierarchical road-based routing which will speed up the routing process over wide search space. It uses a responsibility factor as forwarding metric. This factor decides the weight of the carrier according to how far it will reach to the destination. The proposed algorithm shows good performance results against other ad hoc routing algorithms like Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) and Ad-Hoc On-Demand Distance Vector Routing (AODV). |
