Abstract A total of 243 dogs and cats in Alexandria Governorate private and governmental clinics were examined in the period of January to April 2012, The rate incidence of diarrhoea were detected in 33.3%( n=46) of dogs and 23.66% (n=26) of cats respectively, 30.55% (n=22) of diarrheic animals were alert, showed mild diarrhea without systemic reactions, while 69.4% (n=50) of diarrheic animals were dehydrated, depressed, some of them showed systemic reactions . A total of 72 fecal samples ( 46 dogs and 26 cats samples) were examined in this study ,all animals were clinicaly suffering from diarrhea. samples were included for bacteriological, parasitological and virological examination . E. coli ,Salmonella species, Shigella species and Klebsiella species were detected in rate of 13.3% , 6.6% ,10.8% and 15.2% in dogs samples respectively, Helicobacter species was detected in 19.5% in of dogs samples . Canine parvo virus ( CPV) , Canine distemper virus (CDV) and Canine corona virus (CCOV) was detected in 15.2% , 8.6% and 0% of dogs samples respectively according to the chromatographic immune assay, Toxocara canis was 17.3 , Trichuris vulpis was detected in 4.3 % of dogs samples by fecal examination, Giardia duodenalis was detected in 13.3 % of dogs samples by fecal examination and the chromatographic immune assay. While in cats E. Coli , Salmonella species, Shigella species and Klebsiella species was detected in rate of 11.6% ,11.6%, 7.5% and 26.9% respectively in of cats samples . Helicobacter species was detected in 23% of cats samples , Feline panleukopenia virus (FPLV) couldnot be detected. Toxocara cati was 19.2, Giardia duodenalis was detected in 15.3 of cats samples . Mixed infection was observed in most samples as 6.5% of samples in dogs were infected with Canine parvo virus (CPV) and E- Coli, 4.3% of samples were infected with Canine parvo virus (CPV) and Salmonella, 2.3% of samples were infected with Canine distemper virus (CDV), Toxocara canis and Salmonella., 4.3% of samples were infected with Giardia and Helicobacter, 6.5% of samples were infected with Toxocara canis and Helicobacter, while 2.3% of samples were infected with E. coli and toxocara canis . While in cats 3.3% of samples were infected with E. Coli and Toxocara cati , 3.3% of samples were infected with Helicobacter and Salmonella species, 7.5% of samples were infected with Toxocara cati and Shigella species., as amixed infection. |
