Abstract
The present prospective longitudinal study was
conducted on 500 Egyptian pregnant female. They were
selected among those attending Abo abdullah antenatal care
in Damanhur city, El-Behera governorate during the period
from December, 2007 to February, 2010.
Each pregnant female was subjected to complete
history taking using an interview questionnaire related to
their knowledge and attitude about breastfeeding. They also
received an optional educational program about
advantages, technique and difficulties of breastfeeding
through lectures and group discussions. The present study
included a 2nd questionnaire to assess the infant feeding
practices among all mothers at the age of six months.
Thorough physical examination of the infants stressing on
anthropometric measurements (weight, length, head
circumference and mid arm circumference).
The present study revealed that 46.6% of the females and
41.6% of their husbands received secondary education. All
husbands were working and more than half of mothers
were housewives.
