Abstract Several studies have provided evidences for the structural and functional conservation of RAD_6 proteins among eukaryotes. The high degree of structural homology (69% identity) shown in the primary sequence of the human ubiquitin carrier protein E2 (Mr = 17000) and the protein encoded by the yeast DNA repair gene RDA6 Prompted us to investigate whether such human RAD6 homolog can functionally substitute for the Saccharomyces cerevisiae RAD6 gene in its DNA repair function. In order to evaluate this possibility, we examined whether the human - encoded protein can provided function(s) necessary to rescue the yeast DNA - repair deficient rad6 deletion strain YW062 by complementation. |
