Abstract
The important aim of most surveying operation is to produce a map. Map representing the survey operation are usually conformal. In tthis thesis trails have been made to obtain the most adequate system of conformal projection to be applied for Egypt.
The proposed map projection system for such as area must satisfy these objectives:
To have distoratio as small as possible.
To have discontinuites as few as possible i.e. few number of zones.
To have a suitable reference for the cartesian coordinate systems if possible.
The first two objectives are contaddicting . i.e. if ditortion is kep low there will be many projection planes (zones) and hence many discontnuaities ; On the other hand if a very large area is covered by one projection plane there will be , at the extremty of a zone. unacceptably large distortions. It follows that the choice of map projection system will be a compromise.
The thesis is concerned with a detailed discussion of these three ojectives which should be considered for reching the bestcompromise for the map projection system to be applied for Egypt.
This thesis contains six chapters which study the most suitable system to be applied for Egyp.
