Abstract
Is concerned with the literature survey on the published papers and
reviews concerning the structural chemistry and biological activity of nucleic acids
especially that of purines and pyrimidines and their complexes. This chapter is ended with
the aim of work where effects of different solvents and pH on the electronic absorption
spectra of some selected ligands were carried out to assign the electronic transition and
evaluation of pK values and studying the speciation present. The phenomena of tauto-
merization were discussed by molecular modelling computer programs. Some purines and pyrimidines ligands and their transition metal and mixed metal complexes were prepared and characterized based on elemental analysis, spectroscopic techniques (uv-vis., ir and esr), thermal analysis (DTA, TG and DSC) and magnetic susceptibility.
