Abstract

The new complexes of second-generation fluoroquinolones antimicrobial drug groups, lomefloxacin hydrochloride (LFX) with Ti(IV), V(IV), Pd(II) and Ce(IV), and ofloxacin (HOfl.) of V(IV), Ti(IV Y(III), Zr(IV), Ce(IV) and U(VI) have been prepared. Also the new
complexes of the fourth generation fluoroquinolones moxifloxacin
(MOX) with V(IV), Ti(IV), Y(III), Zr(IV), Pd(II), Ce(IV), U(VI) and
Ti(IV), Y(III), Zr(IV), Pd(II), Ce(IV) of veterinary fluoroquinolones enrofloxacin were isolated as solid complexes with a color characteristic of each metal ion. New complexes of Y(III), Zr(IV), and U(VI) with the anti-inflammatory drug ibuprofen (IBU) have been synthesized. The antiinflammatory ibuprofen drug acts as bidentate chelate bound to metal ions through the deprotonated carboxylate The isolated solid complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, infrared, 1H NMR, electronic spectra and thermal analyses. The results support the formation of the complexes and indicate that lomefloxacin, ofloxacin, moxifloxacin and enrofloxacin in these complexes react as a bidentate ligands through the ring carbonyl oxygen atom and one of the oxygen atoms of the carboxylic group forming six
membered rings with the metal ions. The bond length and force constant F(U=O), in the uranyl complexes were calculated. The vibrational spectra of the final decomposition products indicate that the complexes finally decomposed to the corresponding metal oxides or sulphate. The proposed structures of ibuprofen and their metal binding of the Zr(IV) and Y(III complexes, ofloxacin and their V(IV), Ti(IV), Y(III), Zr(IV), Ce(IV complexes and moxifloxacin ligand and their V(IV), Zr(IV) complexes are predicted using density functional theory at the B3LYP-CEP-31G Abstract level of theory and total energy, dipole moment estimation of different structures. Antimicrobial studies were carried out against several bacterial species, such as S. aureus K1, B. subtilis K22, Br. otitidis K76, E. Coli K32, P. aeruginosa SW1 and K. oxytoca K42 and antifungal screening
was studied against four species penicillium (P. rotatum), trichoderma T. sp.), aspergillus flarus (A. flarus) and aspergillus fumigates A. fumigates). The results showed significant increase in antibacterial activity of metal complexes as compared with uncomplexed ligand. This
increase in the activity is being considered due to increased bioavailability of the metal drug complexes.
