Abstract The expanding uses of atomic and nuclear energy in all fields of Applications have considerably increased during the past few decades. These fields of applications cover energy production and utilization, industrial uses, and above all the broad front use in medical diagnosis and treatment. Such extensive uses of this nuclear and atomic energy in the form of ionizing rodiations, have proved beyond any doubt to be the cause of health hazards to mankind. These health effects depend on the dose of radiation, and the type and modality of exposure. With high dose exposures, Acute effects of radiations result, and considerations of these are outside the scope of this treatise, although they will gain brief mention. Health hazards due to low level radiation, will gain considerable detail throughout this work. Special mention will be given to: — Introductory radiation physics. — Mechanisms of radiation injury. |
