Abstract

This work aims to study the sequence stratigraphy, hydrocarbon potentiality, and basin analysis of the Qantara area, located in the unstable shelf of the northeastern Nile Delta, using electric logging data, seismic data, lithostratigraphic data, geochemical data and some softwares to throw light on the different formations encountered in the Qantara area, starting at the base with the Tineh Formation and ending up with the deposition of the Mit Ghamr Formation .Geochemical investigations showed that the Qantara and Tineh formations are immature source rocks and the kerogen type III is the dominant maceral, indicating gas production from these levels as reported from their petrophysical characteristics. The maturity trend increases southwest, based on the temperature data from all wells. The oil window is detected within the Tineh Formation in the Qantara-4 and 8 wells with Ro% values reaching up to 0.59.br>Sequence stratigraphic interpretation indicated that the Tineh Formation is subdivided into five depositional cycles. The 5th cycle is the most important one, as it is considered to be a hydrocarbon-bearing interval, evidenced by petrophysical data. The Qantara area also showed a good structural trap, characterized by immature source rocks in the Qantara and Tineh formations, good sandstone reservoir in the Tineh Formation and cap rocks are represented by excellent thick shale sediments of Miocene and Pliocene age.
