Abstract Surfactants were prepared by esterification reaction between stearic acid with polyethylene .The chemical structure of the prepared surfactant was characterized by infra-red (IR) spectrum. The adsorption and corrosion inhibition of them on mild steel surface in 2.0 M H2SO4 solution was investigated using weight loss, open circuit potential and potentiodynamic polarization methods, the data reveal that the addition of Surfactants to H2 SO4 to the solution inhibits the corrosion of mild steel .The inhibition efficiency of the surfactant increases with increasing its concentration but decreases with rising temperature. This surfactant acts as a mixed inhibitor .The inhibition of corrosion is due to adsorption of surfactants on the metal surface and formation of barrier film that separate the metal from the corrosive medium. The adsorption of surfactants on steel surface is of physical nature and follows Langmuir’s isotherm. The adsorption process is exothermic and occurs spontaneously on the metal surface. |
