Elderly abuse is a social problem, reflecting one of the important aspects of family violence. some traditions in as most societies, such as respect for the great reverence, and the privacy of the family, lead to imbalance as the result of many social changes. This imbalance shared by East and West alike, may be one contributor the problem of mistreatment of the elderly.
The elderly mistreatment causes many social and psychological problems. Depression is one of the psychological problems facing the elderly as a result of Elderly abuse. This study seeks to examine the experiences of the abuse of the elderly and their relationship to both depression and Loneliness.
The Problem of the study:
Identified the general problem of the study in an attempt to answer the following question:
What is the relationship between the experiences of elderly abuse, and the depression and loneliness, and whether the Genders differ in that?
The Importance of the study:
We can explain the importance of the current study on:
1 - The present study is an attempt to add the previous research studied the phenomenon of abuse in the elderly due to lack of specialized studies in the phenomenon of abuse against the elderly.
2 - identify some of the symptoms in the elderly such as depression, Loneliness, and its association with the phenomenon of abuse against the elderly.
The Aims of the study:
Determined Aims of the study in the following points:
1. Identify the differences between the average degree of the elderly (male - female) to understand the experiences of abuse.
2. Identify the differences between the average degree of the elderly (married – un married) to understand the experiences of abuse.
3. Identify the differences between the average degree of the elderly (60-69 years – 70 to up years) to understand the experiences of abuse.
4. Identify the differences between the average degree of the elderly (male - female) in the symptoms of depression.
5. Identify the differences between the average degree of the elderly (male - female) in the symptoms of Loneliness.
6. Identify the relationship between the experience of abuse and the symptoms of depression in the elderly.
7. Identify the relationship between the experiences of abuse and Loneliness in the elderly.
8. Attempt to predict symptoms of depression of the experience by knowing the degree of abuse suffered by the elderly.
9. Attempt to predict symptoms of Loneliness of the experience by knowing the degree of abuse suffered by the elderly.
The Method:
The study used a comparative descriptive approach.
The sample:
The study sample consisted of (220) elderly, by 60 Male and 60 female ranging in age from 60 to 75 years with an average age of 67.5 years. And 100 Male.
The Tools:
The following tools were used: the raw data form for the elderly, the scale of abuse of the elderly, depression scale for the elderly, the scale of psychological loneliness.
The hypothesis:
1. There are statistically significant differences between the average degree of the elderly (male - female) to recognize the experiences of abuse for older women, aware of where the experiences of abuse are higher than males.
2. There are significant differences between the average degree of the elderly of both Genders depending on the situation in the social perception of the experience of abuse.
3. There are significant differences between the average degree of the elderly of both Genders in relation to age in their understanding of the experiences of abuse.
4. There are significant differences between the average degree of the elderly (male - female) in the symptoms of depression for females.
5. There are statistically significant differences between the average degree of the elderly (male - female) in the Loneliness in favor of females.
6. There is a relationship with a statistically significant correlation between the experience of abuse and depression in the elderly.
7. There is a relationship with a statistically significant correlation between the experience of abuse and Loneliness in the elderly.
8. predict some dimensions of abuse without other symptoms of depression in the elderly.
9. predict some dimensions of abuse without other psychological feeling of loneliness in the elderly.
The results of the study:
The results are:
1. There are significant differences between older males and older females to recognize the experiences of abuse.
2. There are significant differences between the married couples elderly and unmarried couples to recognize the experiences of abuse.
3. There are significant differences among the elderly of 70 years and over and the elderly from 60 to 69 years to recognize the experiences of abuse.
4. There is no statistically significant differences between the average degree of the elderly (male - female) in the symptoms of depression.
5. There are no statistically significant differences between the average degree of the elderly (male - female) in the Loneliness.
6. There is a relationship with a statistically significant correlation between the experience of abuse and depression.
7. There is a relationship with a statistically significant correlation between the experiences of abuse and psychological loneliness.
8. The variables abandonment, physical abuse, psychological abuse variables and the independent are predictors of depression in the elderly.
9. The variables psychological abuse, financial abuse, and abuse of rights are independent variables predictors psychological feeling of loneliness in the elderly.
