Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of letrozole in induction of ovulation in cases of CC resistant PCOS. This prospective clinical trial has been carried out in Ain Shams Maternity University Hospital, in infertility clinic during the period from August 2008 to August 2009. It included a total of 30 infertile women who were diagnosed as PCOS with CC resistance according to Rotterdam criteria 2003. We used letrozole in a dose of 2.5 mg/day from third day of menses to 7th day. We followed the paitents with folliculometry starting from day 9 of menstrual cycle and every other day accordingly. Serum P2 level was measured at day 20-22 of menstrual cycle. The main out come of this study was detection of ovulation rate and PR. In the results of this study, it was founded that 22 (73.33%) women ovulate from which 17 women developed 1 mature follicle and 5 women developed 2 or more mature follicles from the 22 ovulated women, 6 (27.27%) women got pregnant. The endometrial thickenss was ranging from 8-10 mm with mean 8.77±0.75 mm. There were statistically significant differences between responders and non responders as regard age, BMI and basal serum LH levels. All of these parameters were higher in non responders. |
