Abstract Nerve sparing cystectomy was described in the early eighties to improve functional results and potency, in early nineties prostate sparing cystectomy was described to improve both continence and potency without jeopardizing the main aim of ontological surgery, which is adequate Cafcmological control. Our series, included 40 patients who randomized into two groups 20 patients in group (1) prostate sparing cystectomy and 20 patients in group (2) nerve sparing cystectomy in Ain shams university hospital, Cairo, Egypt with a mean follow up of 26 months. Our objective was to assess the functional results of the two procedures together with specific complications and/or oncological risks as controlled randomized prospective study. Mean operative time together with perioperative blood loss and need for transfusion was no significant differance between PSC group and NSC group, however these parameters were comparable to the standard radical cystectomy with orthotopic urinary diversion series. Early post operative complications were studied in only three series other than our’s. In our series, early complications were comparable to that of the standard radical cystectomy series. |
