Abstract The draw back of the high yielding of crops is their higher requirements of chemical fertilizers the dose of fertilizers not only increases the yield of these crops but also causes a higher activity of microorganisms in the soil. Many of these organisms need carbon compounds as a source of energy, so the degradation of soil organic matter is accelerated and the soil should be supplemented by organic matter. These problems are very much conspicuous in arid and semi arid region such as Egypt. The present study was accomplished to devise the effect of compost, compost tea and mineral nitrogen on cucumber growth, and its resistance of some diseases. There were five experiments conducted in field with separate treatments and objectives. A brief description of each experiment is as under. |
