Abstract The skin covers the surface of the body and consists of a surface epithelium called the epidermis, and an underlying connective tissue called the dermis0 The epidermis is a protective covering derived from ectoderm while the dermis supports it and contains nerves and blood vessels and is derived from mesoderm. The anatomy and histology of the rat’s tail was described by Green (1952), who stated that, in the skin of the deep oermis lies on a less densely packed suboutaneous cunnective tissue which connects it with the deep fascia and which is free from adipose tissue. Large vessels are found deep in subcutaneous connective tissue dorso laterally situated. Some thin walled lymphatics are also seen running alengside the blood vessels. In back skin, the dermis contains numerous fat cells. The skin of ear—pinna surrounds and contacts a central plate of yellow elastic fibro—cartilage all around. |
