Abstract

This report explains switchgears control using SCADA system based OIl plc. We found that this system is very important for electricity distribution companies which are able to monitor and control 508 switchgears through control center (MTU) without any operators in switchgears. Applying this system in electricity distribution companies has many advantages such as connecting and disconnecting switchgears cables easily. Another advantage is detecting when any of the switchgear cable is disconnected and it also helps in determining the type of failure whether it was over current or earth fault, as a result, we can repair switchgear cables in a short period of time (decrease the failure detection time). One of the advantages also is the easier isolation of any switchgear during the periodic maintenance, in addition to making load balance on transformers terminals which are used to s1,lpply the switchgears easier, and it is easier to store and record the previous events either connected or disconnected switchgear cables and the fault type; over current or earth fault. Another advantage is increasing the efficiency of electricity distribution companies which leads to increase of profits because the electricity cut off decreases.
In this report, we will design SCADA system based on PLC for switchgear; this switchgear is called top pause switchgear in Alexandria Electricity Company. In this report, we will also add the possibility to control Top house switchgear through internet using PLC.
The content of this report is as the follows:
- Chapter one: includes main components of PLC, operation theory of PLC, and introduction to the ladder diagram language of PLC. It also discusses some of the instructions for ladder diagram of PLC language.
- Chapter two: includes the main idea for SCADA system, and discusses the main components for SCADA system and the location of PLC in SCADA system based on PLC.
- Chapter three: we discussed how to design SCADA system based on PLC using Alien Bradley PLC.
- Chapter four: we studied the introduction of switchgear and discussed the main components of top house switchgear.
- Chapter five: we discussed the design of SCADA system using PLC on top house switchgear and adding the possibility to control Top house switchgear through internet using PLC.
