Abstract

Due to the vital role that control valves generally play in all modem industries and because of the general increase in frequency of valve maintenances and replacements which in turn negatively impacts some of its ~ontrol-affected processes which, at the end, effects the production, this report focuses on some for the most common problems that are arise from using fluid or gas control valves outside their operational design boundaries ..
Firstly, the most common control valve problems will be generally addressed with proposal on how to mitigate against them.
Then, the noise phenomena will be introduced, stating it accompanied side effects and how it’s intensity could be predicted based on given flow variables.
The following chapter then describes the different methods of noise attenuation according to existing conventional equipment.
It is then concludes that some types of attenuation methods are more recommended to be used over others according to the magnitude of the noise, type of service, accessibility and the overall business needs.
Finally, results are previewed in a form of snapshots taken from the constructed calculation software show for a chosen case study which is offered - in the ”Conclusions and Recommendations” chapter - proposals for attenuation as an example.
