Abstract Stylus instrument are widely accepted to monitor surface roughness parameters. The characterising of engineering surface depends on the measurement of atatistical parameters. Nowadays some of the commericially used stylus instruments are profile trace . The work presented here is concentrated on the investigation of the number of profile traces obtained from a particular surface to achieve a certain confedance level. The stuudy include surface produced by different machining processes such as grinding, turning, milling, shaping and spark erosion. The reslts obatianed showed that the number of traces required to achieve a certain confedance limited is larger for processes associated with random contents than that processes wich have determinstic contents. Hinally the work raised a doubt on using the skew of the amplitude distribution as a parameter for ground surfaces characterization. |
