Abstract

The study area lies between the Iongitudes 34°10’ ,34°50’ E, and
-
latitudes 28°10’, 29°10’ N, (Egypt) which include a water basin (Gulf of
Aqaba) and a south eastem part of Sinai. The present work is concemed
with the land use planing of the Gulf of Aqaba area. The data used are,
landsat thematic mapper image (seven band), marine-gravity and
-magnetic data, bathymetric and, topographic data.
The aim of the study is to determine the natural resources in the Gulf
through the analysis of marine geophysical data, and to delineate the
structural geology and plate tectonics through the analysis of satellite
imagery and photogeology. Due to large developments and tourist
activities conceming the area in the last few years it was important to
determine the energy resources and to delineate the earthquake hazard
locations. By using shore line statistical models and coastal modeling it
was possible to isolate the climatic and tectonic elements affecting the area
and to delineate the flush flood hazards. By using the obtained results and
the Geographic Information System techniques it was possible to design a
priority map conceming land use planning of the study area.
The techniques applied in the present work are the landsat
enhancement processing and classification, lineaments analysis and
classification, shore line classification and processing in terrn of statistical
analysis, marine gravity and magnetic field data interpretation, two
dimensional modeling of gravity profiles, reduced to pole magnetic
anomaly map and G IS technique which was applied to maps and images.
Some techniques were introduced by the writer, conceming lineament
extraction and classification, and shoreline, gravity and magnetic field data.
