Abstract The psychological capital journey seems to be going on the right track; however, the majority of the studies conducted have mainly focused on its relationship with its outcomes, while ignoring its antecedents. The purpose of this study is to examine the role of psychological capital as a mediator in the relationship between psychological climate and employees’ satisfaction, commitment and performance levels, accordingly highlighting its antecedents and outcomes. Data was collected from a diverse sample of 167 employees working in various organizations in the banking, telecommunication and manufacturing sectors in Egypt. Results of the study indicate that psychological capital mediates the relationship between psychological climate and employees’ satisfaction and commitment levels. The mediating role of psychological capital between psychological climate and employees’ performance (as rated by supervisor) was, however, not supported. The analysis shows that psychological climate played a major role in psychological capital development and was positively related to the employees’ satisfaction, commitment and performance levels. Meanwhile, psychological capital was positively related to the employees’ satisfaction and commitment only. |
