Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine lactate
concentration in vaginal fluid in order to discriminate between ruptured and intact membranes. The best ”cut off” value of
lactate concentration in vaginal fluid was determined.
This case control study was conducted on 150 pregnant women who were attending the outpatient clinic at Ain Shams University Maternity Hospital between May 2010 and June
2011. The patients were classified into two groups, control group and study group. study group with visible amniotic fluid & Control group with no visible amniotic fluid by sterile speculum examination.
In the present study lactate concentration in vaginal fluid were assessed spectrophotometricaly using Beckman coulter (synchron system) autoanalyzer multiparameters with colorimetric LOD-PAP Lactic oxidaze P-amino Phenazon
monoreagent..
The results in this study showed that when amniotic fluid decreased lactate level increased in study (visible amniotic fluid) group, these results were highly statistically significant, that encourage the use of both in diagnosis of PROM cases.
Also the present study showed that there was significant statistical correlation between lactate level in vaginal fluid and latent period.
