Abstract Over the last few years, there has been increased interest in the addictive potential of the computer and Internet. It is considered one of addictive behaviors, that affect individual’s psychological, physical, and social health so, it may result from wide range of causes, that affect vulnerable persons suffer from social isolation, low self esteem, depression or other maladaptive coping strategies its need the gathered effort of practitioner and health team members. Computer addiction or as many specialists call it computer addiction disorder, is viewed as a problem that is still difficult to be defined accurately. Adolescents are more vulnerable to pathologic computer use as they have less ability to control their enthusiasm for something that awakens their interests, like Internet or computer games (Griffiths, M., 2001). Therefore, the community mental health nurse has a crucial role in identifying the IAD symptoms and its significant other negative consequences as well. Educating people about internet positive and negative effects is one of the preventive measures that, need to be impeded in our Egyptian communities. Therefore, the aim of the current study was to assess psychosocial changes associated with computer addictive behavior. The aims of this study were to: 1. Assess psychosocial problems that correlates with excessive computer use among college students of Ain-Shams University. 2. Assess computer addictive behaviors among college students of Ain-Shams University. The aims of this study have been achieved through answering the following research questions: 1. What are psychosocial correlates with excessive computer use among college students of Ain-Shams University? 2. What are computer addictive behaviors among college students of Ain-Shams University? Research design Descriptive correlational study. Research setting: The study was conducted at faculties of Ain Shams University. It affiliated to the Ministry of Higher Education,included all humanities and natural faculties of Ain Shams University except faculty of engineering, and faculty of Computer & Information technology. |
