Abstract

The present study was carried out at Inshas Poultry Research
farm to investigate the potential effects of lead acetate and chromium
chloride supplementation on some productive, physiological and
immunological performance in layers. A total number of 360 hens of
Silver Montazh chicken strain (SM) and Matrouh chicken strain (M),
180 each were randomly divided into 6 treatment groups 30 hens each.
The first group was fed on the basal diet without any additives
(Control), the second group was fed on the basal diet with 100 mg/kg
(CrCl3), the third group was fed on the basal diet with 50 mg/kg of
(CrCl3), the fourth group was fed on the basal diet with 25 mg/kg of
(Pb acetate) mg/kg lead + 50 mg/kg of (CrCl3), the fifth group was fed
on the basal diet with 25 mg/kg of Pb as (Pb acetate), the sixth group
was fed on the basal diet with 50 mg/kg of Pb as (Pb acetate).
The birds were fed on these additives during the whole
experiment period, from 24 to 40 weeks of age.
- Results of the study showed that live body weight (LBW) was
significantly decreased in a dose dependent manner while, body
weight gain (BWG) was not significantly changed. While, age had
a significant effect on both LBW and BWG.
- Dietary Pb acetate supplements had no effect on egg production
traits as well as feed consumption and feed conversion ratio.
There were significant increases in the previous parameters due to
age, however, feed consumption was not affected.
- Egg quality traits were insignificantly affected by dietary Pb
acetate. However, these parameters were significantly changed
with age. On the other hand, Haugh unit was significantly affected
due to Pb acetate supplementation and with age.
- Plasma calcium, phosphorus, AST, total protein, albumin and
alkaline phosphatase activity were not affected by Pb acetate
supplements. While, plasma ALT were significantly increased.Hemeagglutination inhibition test as an indicator for immuno
response against avian Influenza was significantly improved by
CrCl3 supplements. Litter ammonia and litter humidity were
insignificantly affected by Pb acetate supplementation. While,
they were significantly increased with age due to their
accumulation in indoor laying hens house.
It is concluded from the results that CrCl3 addition could
alleviate the deleterious effect of lead pollution on the productive,
physiological and immunological performance of laying hens.
