Abstract

Eighty Hubberd chickens of one day old were obtained from General Poultry Company, A.R.E.
They received rations containing oral contraceptive (Anovlar) for investigation
of such contraceptive pills on body gain as well as liver status. Chickens were classified into four groups as follows:
1-Group I: Comprised 20 chickens representing the control group, fed rations free from contraceptive.
2-Group II. Included 20 chickens received rations containing Anovlar 1/2 strip 50 kg ration ( o.225 mg/kg ration ).
3-Group III: Contained 20 chickens fed on rations containing Anovlar 1 strip/50kg ration ( 0.45 mg/kg ration ).
4-Group IV: Comprised 20 chickens served rations containing Anovlar 2 strips/50kg ration ( 0.90 mg/kg ration ).
10 liver and blood were collected after slaughter at day 40 of age which corresponding 25 days of Anovlar administration from each group including the control one. The other 10 blood and liver samples were collected after 40 days of Anovlar administration (at age 55 days ) from each group including the control one.
Serum samples were separated and subjected for total lipids, total cholesterol, total protein, Albumin, globulins, glucose, sodium, potassium and the activities of
AST and ALT Transaminases.
Liver samples were used for histopathological examination. Also body weight
of chickens in each group as wells as the gain of body weight were recorded weekly.
The results achieved can be summarized as following.
1)Serum Total Lipids: Showed a very high significant increase in chickens received oral
contraceptive pills ( Anovlar ) in their rations for 25 and 40 day in all groups.
2)Serum total cholesterol: The level showed a very high significant increase in chickens administrated oral contraceptive pills ( Anovlar ) for 25 and 40 days in all groups.
3) Serum Total Protein:
significant increase in all groups administrated oral Revealed a highly g
das. Moreover, chickens received oral contraceptive pills contraceptive pills for 25 y
ighly significant increase for groups I and II while group IV for 40 days showed a h
showed a significant increase.
4) Serum albumin: is recorded a non-significant increase in serum albumin of all g 5) Serum Globulinst
significant increase in all groups of chickens received oral Recorded a sig
for 40 days
p 25 days. Moreover, chickens received this drug
contracep tive ills for
roups III and IV led a very highly significant increase in group II while g
revea showed a highly significant increase .
6) Serum Glucose:
There was a very highly significant decrease in serum glucose level in all
groups of chickens treated with oral contraceptive pills for 25 and 40 days.
7) Serum sodium :
In chickens received oral contraceptive pills for 25 and 40 days a very highly
significant increase in serum sodium was noticed in all groups.
8) Serum Potassium:
Revealed a very highly significant decrease in chickens received oral
contraceptive pills for 25 days in all groups. Moreover, administration of this drug to chickens of 40 days showed a very highly significant, a highly significant and a significant decrease in serum potassium level in groups II, IV and III respectively.
9) Aspartate aminotransferase ( AST )
The data recorded a very high significant increase in the activity of AST in
chickens received oral contraceptive pills for 25 and 40 days in all groups. 10) Manine aminotransferase ( ALT ):
The activity showed in all groups of chickens received oral contraceptive pills for 25 and 40 days a very highly significant increase.
* Body weight :
The recorded results showed a very highly significant increase in body weight
rous of chickens treated with oral contraceptive pills for 25 days.
in all g hickens administrated oral contraceptive pills for 40 days revealed Moreover, ca very highly significant increase in body weight of chicks in groups II and IV while chickens in group III showed a highly significant increase.
* Histopathological studies of liver showed that;
oscoic revealed congestion with grayish-white foci in their parenchyma. Macr
l examination revealed degenerative changes in the hepatic Histopathologica
parenchyma. Leucocytic aggregations mainly eosinophils with biliary fibrosis were tected. The bile duct showed hyperplasia of their lining also de.
