Abstract

This study was carried out on 35 friesian cows a,sed 3-6 years selected from the west Nobaria farm. The animals were divided into two groups. 1. Control ;. Which consists of 15 cyclinr: cows II. Experimentral -‘roup: which consists of 20 cows in the last wee!!: of preLmancy. The blood samples were taken from the jugular vein from each 3nima3 of the control group, once during the diestrus z)nase. While five blood samples were colleciced from each animal of the experimental group as follows One blood sample during the last week of pregnanc:, as well as, 1st & 2nd & 3rd and 4th weeks after T)artirition. The fold OyTi enzLaes were determined in the seruc.1 saaoles: 1.Serum elkoline phosphatase 2.Serum cholinesterase 3)Serum glutamic oxaloecetic transaminase 4)Serum glutamic pyxuvic txansaminase
5)Serum lactate dehydxogenase e results obtained can be summarized in the followin,- 1. Serum alkine )hosphatase The mean value of SALP in the control group was 13 + 1.68 K.A.U/ 100 ml serum while the values of the enzyme in the experimental group were 27.5. ± 1.9,
19.5 + 1.85, 17.7 + 1.28, 16.11 + 1.74 and 15.36 + 1.65 K.A.U/ 100 ml serum for the last week of pregnancy, , 2nd 3rd and 4th weeks of puerperium in friesian C ,
The enzyme activities durint duringthe 1r,ct week of pregnancy, 1st , 2nd weeks of puerperium were significantly high in comparison with the control :;x0u-p. While, the enzyme values during 3xd , 4th weeks of puerperium non significantly changed with the control group.
2) ’Serum cholinesterase The mean values of the enzyme were 0.69+ .05, 0.44 .033,0.50 ± .0332 0.53 + .03,0.54 ± .028 and 0.57 ± 0.0301cholinestexase unit/ hour for tae control croup, last week of pregnancy,lst 2nd, 3rd and 4th weeks of puerperium. respectively The enzyme values during the last week of pregnancy, 1st , 2nd , 3rd and 4th weeks of
puerperium were .reatly lower than the value of the enzyme in the control group. Serum s71utamic oxaloacetic transaminase The enzyme value was 30.77 + 2.01 L for control group, but the enzyme values for the experimental group were 42.68 + 2.7812.16 + 2.41, 30.66 + 1.86, 27.08 + 2.2 and 26.74 + 1.95 •U/L for last week of pregnancy 1st , and, 3rd and 4th weeks of puerperium respectively. The enzyme activities during the last week of prenancy and 1st week of puerperium were –inific antly elevated, Moa!’whne a non Fiinifiont were observed between 2nd , 3rd and 4th weeks of puerperium and those of the control hroup. 4)Serum lutamic -rtiruvic •ransaminse The activities of the enzyme vc.c nearly si.T.ilar to ftat of S GOT. The values of 5 GET were l.C3 + 1.4, 23.42 + 1.63, 22.45 1.C.:1, 16.78 + 1.64, 17.23 + 1.99 and 15.2E±1.271Vor the col-it:eel i-roup, the last week of prenancy 1st, 2nd 3rd and 4th weeks of puerperium in friesian cows. 5)serum letate dehvdxo;:enase:
The value of the enzsme in the control Lrour) was 521 + 21.99 I.U/T., while the values of the enz:ime in the experimental group were 1156.9+ 50.6, 1259.S+ 48.4, S67.7 + 37.9, 809.71 + 36.8 and 682.54 + 17.6. l.U/L for last week of pregnancy 1st, 2nd , 3rd and 4th weeks of puerperium. The enzyme activities durin:j the last week of pregnancy and 1st, 2nd , 3rd and 4th week of puermerium were hiji.ly significantls elevated in. comparison v:ith the
control jr0r1:0; from the -present work it may be concluded that the activities kif serum alkaline phosphatase were significantly
duri the last week of pregnancy and 1st and 2nd wee•of puernerium, after that the enzyme activities return to the normal values. .,_1 so the activiti of both S GOT and 5 GPI were _;Ye try elevated cluzih the last week of pregnanct and 1st week of puerperium, after that the mean values of the two enzyme were non significantly changed with_ that of the control group-.
the S LDII activities were highly signific, ntly high during the ls.st week of pregnancy and the four weeks of puerperium. In contrast the activities of S-C.:Est were greatly si,;nificantly low during the last week of pregnancy and the four weeks of puerperium.
It is worthy to mention that the remerkable changes which were observed in the activities of serum enzymes studied in this investigation depending upon the morphohistologicai and physiological changes occured in the geldtal tissues and the blood of the animal during these periods. This open a new scope to use these enzyme activities for Identification and prognosis of the normal puerperium in friesian cows.
