Abstract

The present investigation was planned to Explane : 1- Feasibility of inducting parturition in catlle with PGF2a. 2- The effect of inductions of paa\rturition on DROP of the placenta and puerperial period. 3- The temporal changes in estradial-17a. and progestrone in parturient cows. The study was carried out on a herd of friesian cows located in the Military farm of october 6, ElNobariah, throughout the period from september 1st 1991 to July, 30th 1992. A total number of 30 pregnant caws with known history of breeding were used in the current work. Animals were assigued into three comparable gorups. Based on the due date of parturition, two groups were treated by the LM. injection ofPGF2a., lutalyse, 25 mg for each animal in both groups, either at the 15th day (Gr.l , 12 cases) or at the 20th day (Gr.2, 8 cases) befor parturition. The third groups was left without treat:mea as control (10 cases). Starting from the date
of injection, all cases were put under observation till the date of calving
and througout the open clays period till the next conceptioo. By the statistical aaIysis for the obtained data, the present results revealed that:- 1- The rate of dystocia was significantly higher in the treated groups (25-50%) than that in the control (10%). Time lasted from PGF2a. injection to freshening was longer in the 1~ day (68.00± 5.19hrs.) than that in the 20th day (57.00 ± 7.08 hrs.)
group. 2- The rate of placental retention varied form (62.50% to 83.33%)
in the treated goups. The placenta dropped at a time significantly longer in the 15th day group (17.42 ± 2.76 hrs. ) and in the 20th day group (17.75 ± 4.11 hrs.), than that in the control (6.10 ± 0.95 hrs.) group 3- The treated groups revealed higher rates of stillbirths associated with lower calf weights at the 15th day (23.08%, 36.83 ± 1.62 kg) and at the 20th day (37.50%,33.43 ± 1.89
kg) group when compared to control (0%, 38.57± 2.61 kg) . 4- The rate of abnollD1l uterine discb8rge and incomplete uterine involution was sia,”fiamtly higher IIld ovarian activity was much lower in ~ under the e&ct ofPGF2a.
5- The fifst obsevedl-t efter eaMII ClDC at a time sigpificandy
longer in the 15.y (69.91 ± 4.51 d) aod in the 20dl day (71.17 ± 6.78 d)” dIat in theCUdlol (47.11 ± 9.67 d) groups. 6- The number of services/conception seemed siginifcantly higher in the 15th day (5.91± 0.74) and in the 20th day (4.71 ± 0.81) than that in the control (3.50 ± 0.73). 7- Consquently, the period of open days came significantly longer in the 15th day (190.64 ± 14.80 d) and in the 20th day (176.86± 13.69 d) than that in the control (126.75 ± 15.66 d)
groups. 8- While cocentrations of oetradiol-17J3 and progestrone revealed
hgihly significant change throughout the first 21 days after calving PGF2a. treatment did not induce any prominent change in both hormones, comparing to those in the control. from the present study, as a conclussion, we can be use the PGF2a. injection for syncbrooiztion of calving in cattle under Some
procoutions to over come k’s problems which appeared daring using
PGF2a. to induce parturiti~. induction tIllibortion.
