Abstract
Aphakia (a not - phakos = lens), This term denotes not only the absence of the lens from the eye, but also those conditions where in the lens is absent from the pupillary area. The majority of cases, the lens has been removed by operation, sometimes it may be lost through a perforating wound or absent as a congenital defect, or may be displaced from the pupil by dislocation.
The management of unilateral aphakia depends on the vision in the phakic eye, binocular potential, the patient age and adaptability and the general health of the patient.
The management of aphakia is either by spectacles, contact lenses, 1.0. LS. or by surgical correction.
The aim of this essay is to review the literature regarding the cause and management of unilateral aphakia in adult and children.
