In developing countries in general and particular in Egypt, attention is focused on economic growth. The consuming style of the Egyptian family is one of the most important factors affecting our national economy. It is the major part of consumer spending to the society, so it is necessary to increase the interest level of consumer culture of the Egyptian society and urge them to rationalize consumption of individual and family. The society, especially after the massive increase in population and the stability of resources must only rationalize consumption and properly until we reach the desired goals.
After examining the results of the survey conducted by the National programme for the preservation of drinking water on the population and found that the waste that occurs in the water for the use of water in the car wash workshops, and streets spreading and not knowing the efforts being made by the government to provide water as the basis of life and the development of water resources, which has become a vital requirement to ensure development and continuity, in all fields of industrial, tourist and agricultural and by working to change the patterns and consumer daily habits so characterized the behaviour of the individual and the family soberly, and wisdom. And to rationalize consumption is not intended here depriving a person from using water or electricity but is used correctly and get rid of wasteful excess water and high pressures of electricity and means of welfare excess in order to reach every citizen in the community of equality and a measure of justice and for every citizen to enjoy the right to his own resources and became the subject of water necessary because the scientists assert that future wars will be because of water.
The rational use of energy and water has become necessary so the individual can identify their needs and get rid of wasteful excess and therefore can use this energy in development projects. Egyptian household consumption has become characterized excess which affects our national economy and a public spending of the Egyptian society it is necessary to raise the level of consumer culture to society members and get rid of destructive consumer behaviour and develop consumer awareness of the individual and the family as it is the nucleus of society. Society in general, especially as the Egyptian child living patterns characterized by profligate and these patterns that contradict with the economic conditions of the community and this emphasizes the need for the development of consumer awareness.
Hence the problem of the study is to answer the following question:
- what is the impact of the applying a pilot programme for the development of consumer awareness of water and electricity in on sample of students (first year prep school).
Stems of this question, the following questions:
- What types of water and electricity consumption in the research sample?
- Does the water and electricity consumption patterns is depending on the different social and economic levels of the families of the research sample?
- What is the relationship between the level of consumer awareness of water and electricity and variables of social and economic level of the research sample families?
- What is the degree of consumer awareness for students (research sample) in the area of water and electricity?
- What are the characteristics and specifications of the guiding programme for the development of consumer awareness of the research sample?
- What is the impact of guiding programmes in the development of consumer awareness of the research sample?
Research objectives:
After presenting the problem of the study, the main objective of this study is: research the effect of guiding programme for the development of consumer awareness of water and electricity in a sample of students (first year prep school).
And emerge from this main goal the following objectives:
1. Field study to determine the level of consumption awareness of a sample of students in the first year prep school of both water and electricity
2. Study the difference in consumer awareness of both water and electricity to the study sample according to each of :
- Place of residence (rural, urban).
- Working parents (father, mother).
- Level of education of the parents (father, mother).
- The number of family members and income.
3. Based on the results of the field study conducted an guiding study and the preparation of an guiding programme aimed to the development of consumer awareness of water and electricity for a trial sample.
4. Guiding programme application on a trial sample of water and electricity.
5. Measure the effectiveness of the guiding programme.
The importance of research:
Find the definition of interested prep school students the importance of water and electricity suppliers and the impact of interest rationalizing consumption (consumer awareness) of water and electricity on the individual and society.
Study hypotheses:
In spot of the results of researches and previous studies and the current research objectives formulated the following hypotheses:
1. There are significant differences between the awareness of students to the consumption of water and electricity and the total consumption, according to place of residence.
2. There is a statistically significant difference between the awareness of students to the consumption of water and electricity and the total consumption, according to the number of family members.
3. There are statistically significant differences between the awareness of students to the consumption of water and electricity and the overall consumer according to the mother’s work.
4. There are significant differences between the awareness of students to the consumption of water and electricity and the total consumption in accordance with the work of the father.
5. There is a statistically significant difference between the awareness of students to the consumption of water and electricity and the total consumption in accordance with the level of education of the mother and the father.
6. There is a statistically significant difference between the awareness of students to the consumption of water and electricity and the total consumption, according to the income level of the family.
7. There is a correlation coefficient between awareness of water consumption and electricity consumption awareness.
8. There are differences between the pre and post application of consciousness consumption of water and electricity in favour of the post application.
Summary of results:
A. Results field study sample:
Results of the research sample of 300 students :
1. There is no statistically significant differences between the mean scores of rural and urban students in consumer awareness of water and electricity and consumer awareness.
2. There are significant differences between the consciousness of students in consumer awareness of water and electricity and consumer awareness as a whole according to the mother’s work.
3. There is not statistically significant differences between the consciousness of students in consumer awareness of water and electricity consumption as a whole, according to the work of the father.
4. There is a statistically significant variation between the consciousness of students in consumer awareness of water and electricity consumption, according to the level of education of parents and thus reject the hypothesis.
5. There is a statistically significant difference between the consciousness of students in consumer awareness of water and electricity consumption, according to income level.
6. There is statistically significant variation between the consciousness of students in consumer awareness of water and electricity consumption, according to the number of family members and thus reject the hypothesis.
7. There is a positive correlation between students awareness of water and electricity at the level (0.01).
B. Results of pilot study sample:
Evidenced by the results of a pilot study sample of students by 30 school girls: There are significant differences between the pre and post application in consumer awareness of water and electricity consumption at level 0.01 in favour of the post application.
Recommendations:
According to the results of the current study we Summarize some recommendations are as follows:
Recommendations to the educational institutions:
• Need to pay attention to the development of consumer awareness programmes at all levels of education.
• Need to focus on introducing some of the concepts and linguistics, such as the rationalization of consumption and guiding and awareness programmes and resources and their importance in some curricula of educational materials in all levels of education.
• Need to pay attention to important resources such as water consumption, electricity and entered in some curricula.
• Interest in holding seminars or lectures by trained personnel specialists and experts for all levels of education.
• Interest in making trips to the electricity companies and water stations for all levels of education to get acquainted with the efforts by the government.
• Interest in spreading awareness of water and electricity in the school radio and magazines and banners inside the wall schools.
Recommendations for family care institutes:
• Interest in consumer awareness programmes for the whole family through various media.
• Attention to making seminars and lectures for the whole family to raise awareness of water and electricity.
• Interest in making trips to the electricity companies and water stations for the whole family to get acquainted with the efforts of the government.
• Interest in spreading awareness of water and electricity through making some signs and banners in squares and public roads. Publishing booklet attached in various institutions for the care of the family and local clubs etc.
Specific recommendations by the media:
Interest in spreading awareness of water both and electricity through various media through television, radio and the Internet, magazines and banners on public roads.
Recommendations to houses of worship:
Interest in addressing consumer awareness of both water and electricity in mosques and churches.
