Abstract

Itraconazole and Fluconazole compounds were investigated as corrosion inhibitors of API 5L-B steel in 3.5% NaCl solution saturated with CO2 using potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy )EIS( and electrochemical frequency modulation (EFM) .metal surfaces with and without inhibitors have been characterized by scanning electron microscopes (SEM) ، energy dispersive x-ray )EDX( and x-ray diffraction )XRD(. Results showed that the two compounds act as mixed-type inhibitors by suppressing simultaneously the cathodic and anodic processes via chemisorption on the electrode surface according to langmuir adsorption isothern. Inhibition efficiency increased by increasing concentration up to 15 and 20 ppm for Itraconazole and fluconazole respectively then decreased slightly. the values of activation energy and thermodynamics parameters were calculated . surface analysis showed the the existence of inhibitor molecules on the metal surface and formation of iron nitride layer which support the results obtained from all previous techniques.
