Abstract

This study was carried out during the period from 1993 till 1997 at Degwa, Tahla and Sandanhour veterinary clinics located in Benha district, Kaluobya governorate. The percentage of repeat breeder cows in each clinic were recorded to be 15.13% , 10.11%, 3.63%, 4.06% and 3.21% at Degwa clinic ; 12.44%, 10.93% 13.05%, 12.05% and 15.85% at Tahla clinic, and 14.28%, 7.74%, 8.23%, 7.95% and 4.63% at Sandanhour clinic during 1993, 1994, 1995 and 1997 respectively. The repeat breeder cows were classified into 12 group, according to the type of treatment as follows:
Group 1: Included 15 cows treated with 100m1 lugol’s iodine solution intrauterine.
Group II: Included 15 cows treated with 100m1 lugol’s iodine solution and 100 ml own-plasma intrauterine.
Group III: Included 15 cows treated with 200m1 own plasma intrauterine.
Group IV: Included 14 cows treated with 100m1 own plasma only intrauterine.
Group V: Included 14 cows treated with 50m1 own plasma only intrauterine.
Group VI: Included 12 cows treated with 20m1 Gentamycin (5%) and 100m1 own plasma intrauterine.
Group VII: Included 14 cows treated with 20m1 oxytetracyclin 5% and 100m1 own plasma intrauterine. Group VIII: Included 15 cows treated with 20m1 Gentamycin 5% and 20m1. oxytetracyclin 5 % intrauterine.
Group IX: Included 12 cows treated with 100m1 own whole milk and 20m1 gentamycin 5% intrauterine.
Group X: Included 15 cows treated with 100m1 own whole milk and 100 ml own plasma intrauterine.
Group XI: Included 14 cows treated with 100m1 own whole milk only intrauterine.
Group XII: Included 12 cows without any treatment as a control group.
On the other hand, the repeat breeder cows under investigations were classified as typical repeat breeder cases and atypical repeat breeder cases which composed of endometritis 3rd degree (El , E2 , and E3 respectively). the substances and biological matters used in the treatment of all groups were applied as intrauterine infusion. Each animal received the treatment twice with 10 days interval except in group VIII treated with antibiotics, the interval was 3 days for 4 times. The study resulted with a non-significant reduction in the length of estrous cycle following treatment of repeat breeders cows (21.87 ± 0.57; 20.87 ± 0.60 ; 22.13 ± 0.46; 21.07 ± 0.46; 22.93 ± 0.47 22.42 ± 0.62; 21.79 ± 0.56; 21.60 ± 0.59; 22.0 ± 0.59; 21.67 ± 0.47; 22.29 ± 0.63) and ( 22.33± 0.80) Than before treatment (22.2 ± 0.54; 21.60 ±0.49; 22.73 ±0.56; 21.36 ± 0.49; 23.00 ± 0.69; 22,92 ± 0.77; 22.29 ± 0.76; 22.13 ± 0.65; 22.50 ± 0.75; 22.07 ± 0.75; 23.64 ±0.69) and (22.75 ±0.91) days for group 1,11 , III, IV, V , VI , VII, VIII , IX , X, XI and XII respectively . In our investigation the conception rate and number of services per conception for the treated and control groups of typical and atypical repeat breeder cows where calculated. It was found that the highest 1st service conception rate recorded for group X (46.76%) and VI (41. 67% ) followed by that detected for groups I , II , III , IV,VII , VIII , and IX (13.33-22.22% ); while the lowset ones were observed for groups V , XI and XII (0.0-7.14%), the highest 1st service conception females were obtained for group X(77.78% ) and gradually decreased in groups. VI (62.50%) VII (41.67%). I, III, IV (33.3%), II (30.0%), IX (25.0%) , WI ( 20. 0%), V (12.5%) The lowest conception rate were observed for group XI and XII (0.0%) while all the typical repeat breeders were failed to conceive from the 1St service. Also the highest total conception rate were obtained in group VI (66.67%) followed by that mentioned for group II, III and X(60.0%) , VII (57.14%), IV(42.86%) I (33.33%), VII (26.67%) ,XII (25.0%) V (14.29%) ) and XI (14.29%) . Also, the highest 1St service rate (75.0%) in breeders cows were recorded in group X followed by that recorded for group VI (46.76) and a sudden DROP in first service conception rate were recorded in group VII , II , III , IV , I , IX, and VIII (22.22% 26.67% ,20.0%, 21.43% ,20.0% ,16.76%, and 13.3% respectively) and total conception rate were mentioned to be (66.67%) in group VI then ( 60% , 57.11% ,42. 86 % , 26.67 % , 25.0% and 14.29%) in group II, III, VII, VIII, XII and V, respectively, while the lowest service conception rate ( 0.0% ) were found in groups XI and XII. The percentage of anestrous cows in each vet. clinic were recorded at Degwa clinic it was 4.15 %, 5.43%, 4.53% , 4.76%, and 3.32% at Tahla clinic 8.27%, 8.91%, 8.31%, 11.16% and 12.20% and at Sandanhour clinic 11.02%, 4.19%, 11.18%, 10.54% and 5.35% during 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997, respectively. Also the anestrous cows were classified into 7 groups according to the type of treatment as follows:- Group I: Included 15 cows treated with 100m1 lugol’s iodin solution only intrauterine
Group II: Included 12 cows treated with 100m1 own plasma and 100m1 lugol’s iodine solution intrauterine.
Group III: Included 14 cows treated with 100m1 own whole milk and 100m1 lugol’s iodine solution intrauterine.
Group IV Included 15 cows treated with 100m1 own whole milk only intrauterine.
Group V Included 14 cows treated with 200m1 own plasma only intrauterine.
Group VI: Included 12 cows treated with 100m1 own whole milk and 100m1 own plasma intrauterine .
Group VII: Included 15 cows without any treatment as a control group.
The substances and biological matters used in the treatment of all groups were applied as intrauterine infusion. Each animal received the treatment twice with 10 days interval. In our trial we calculated the number and percentage of anestrous cows came in estrus as a result of the type of treatment and the highest total percentage of cows came in estrus were observed in groups I, II (60.0%, 58.30% respectively) Followed by that recorded in group III (42.9%) while the lowest percentage (20% ,14.9% , 16.7% and 13.3% ) were recorded in groups IV , V , VI and VII respectively. Moreover the percentage of anestrous cows had smooth inactive. Ovaries which came in estrus as a result of treatment were ( 80%, 75% 55.6% , 27. 3% , 20%) 22.2% and 20% in groups I , II ,III, IV ,V , VI and VII respectively, while the percentage of anestrous cows had persistent corpus luteum and came in estrus as a result of treatment ranged from 0% up to 25% in different groups and different type of treatment. Also by calculating of the mean time elapsed following treatment till appearance of estrus in anestrus cows, we found that the shortest time elapsed till appearance of estrous in those cows of group II (12.17± 1.08 days and group IV (15.17 ± 2.10 days) and the more mean time found in group V (18.33 ± 2.19 days) followed by VII, III,VI and I (16.50 ± 2.50, 12.57 ± 2.7, 15 ± 1.53 and 15.0 ± 1.53 days respectively). The highest 1st service conception rate for anestrous cows under investigation were observed in group I (66.7%) followed by groups II , III and VII ( 40 -50%) and the lowest rates ( 0% ) were reported in other group. And the highest total conception rate at group I (88.9%), II (71.4%) and III ( 66. 7%) followed by that recorded ( 33.3-50.0%) for groups IV, V, VII. The lowest total conception rate observed in group VI, moreover the maximum Is’ service conception rate and total conception rate for anestrous cows that had smooth inactive ovaries were obtained in group I (75.0 and 87.5%) followed by that mentioned in group II ( 50.0 and 83.3%) and III (40.0 and 80.0%). We also detect a sharp DROP in cows that had smooth inactive ovaries in groups IV,V and VI concerning the 1st service conception (0.0%) and total conception rate (0.0-50.0%).
